How to write content for a website
I noticed that people are willing to talk about their business, but when it comes to writing, it all seems much harder.
Let’s make it a bit easier!
First of all, let’s make it clear what pages you might need for your website:
Homepage
This will be the page where you gather all the essential information about your business and grab the attention of your visitor so they want to explore further.
When visitors arrive here, they should immediately know what your business is about, how you can help them, and where to find more relevant info.
It is also important to add social proof, like testimonials or places where your work was featured.
OPT-IN BOX
A good email list is very important to keep in touch with your clients. Your list includes people who are interested in your work or love your work and potentially might want to work with you. These people get you.
That’s why you should have an opt-in box so people will be able to get on your list before moving off the page. It is a busy world, they might love your content but might not visit it again if they don’t see you again. Sending out emails is a great way to keep in touch.
About page
Your About Page will be one of the most visited pages on your website. That’s because once people begin liking you and enjoying your content, they’ll naturally want to know more about who you are.
This is about you mainly, but with a little twist: you will have to talk about your client as well. Talk about how you are able to help them!
You can also talk about your mission, your values and your story! Your story includes why you started your business in the first place!
Work with Me page
This is the page where you write about your services and make it very clear how you can work together! Talk about the values and benefits they will receive from working with you. Not just talk about your skills and qualifications. People want to be a better version of themselves, so talk about how your service will help them.
The content might include:
- Description of service
- Benefits for the client
- Authority credentials
- Practical details (like where are you and how to arrive)
- Refund Policy or Money Back Guarantee
- Pricing
If you have more services, you can have a Work with Me page with a shorter description of each service and they can go to a separate page with more detailed info if necessary.
Shop page
The shop page will feature your products.
Portfolio page
If you are a designer or photographer, you should include a portfolio page to showcase your work.
Contact page
This is the page where people can get in touch with you. Make it as easy as possible, so have a contact form on this page, as this is the easiest way to get in touch with you. It is useful to talk about information, like when you are available for a phone call, etc.
Blog
This can be a section where you post your news or your events. If you are more into writing, you can share stories and useful things that might help people get to know you and your offerings. If you share more about yourself and your work you are able to build trust and help people decide if they want to work with you.
Legal pages
It’s a good idea to include a privacy policy on your website, especially if you have a contact form or do any sort of analytics tracking to monitor site traffic.
Tip for writing for a website: it is not like writing a novel. It is more like writing for a newspaper. You will have to use headlines that grab the attention! If you think you are not a journalist, well don’t be afraid you don’t have to be one to learn about these things. If you are interested to go deeper, this is a good place to start:
